O Dulcis Scotia

Music in Medieval Scotland

A selection recreating the music and sounds of the Courts of Scotland from the prosperous period of the 13th century up to the time of Robert, the Bruce and the Wars of Independance. The music is from St Andrews Music Book (W1), the Inchcolm Antiphoner and contemporary sources. These are performed in instrumental arrangements on the early Alta ('loud') group with shawm and early bagpipes, and on the Bas ('soft') group of harp, medieval fiddle, citole, and in vocal arrangements accompanied with fiddle and harp.
